Don Pepin Garcia Serie JJ Selecto

This is the second Don Pepin Garcia cigar to be reviewed the Series JJ. It is marketed to be a full body smoke and it was created by the son of Don Pepin. I’ve smoked a couple of them and now its time to post what I found:

Wrapper:  Corojo Oscuro
Binder:  Nicaragua
Filler:  Nicaragua
Size: 5×50

Initial thoughts:

Very nice looking cigar that is well rounded solid and well packed with tobacco as well as the triple cap. The wrapper has a very beautiful color to it “tanned” with smooth veins and slight oils on it. The pre light draw was good and brings flavors of tobacco and old wood. The burn was faster then usual but good and the gray ash holds for an inch or so before it fall.

Straight medium from the first puffs with smooth, oily and creamy smoke contains mild pepper and wood. An inch down this cigar starts to work very good on the flavors side to deliver a wood, sweet tobacco, pepper and hints cocoa brought with a medium body smoke. An oily leathery taste appeared by the end of this third.

The this third the cigar kept the generosity in the flavors since the sweetness that was at the beginning started caramelize and more of the mentioned above flavors, cocoa leather and tobacco and less pepper and stable body. At the half way point a shot of an espresso came to enrich flavors profile while there is an increase in the body.

Final third:

At this point the flavors becomes bolder with coffee leading and just a mild pepper and the rest still the same and hint of earth with body could be full too.

Final thoughts:

Well now after smoking this cigar I can see the reason behind Don Pepin’s huge reputation. It is a worth to smoke cigar and it is a cigar that a pearson should go back to many times. In my opinion this cigar need to be aged for a while so it can show every thing it has. Well Viva Don Pepin.

  1. Very nice review. I have had this line of cigars in the maduro wrapper and it was very good. I have five cigars of the maduro version that I am aging for six months to bring out more flavor. After reading your review, I will have to try this one also.
